Claire Aasen specializes in starting and training young horses and mature horses who are having problems or just require further training. She has experience working in many different disciplines, with a focus on dressage and hunter/jumpers. Claire has worked with and for many reputable breeders and trainers over the years.
Her philosophy is based on building a closer relationship between horse and rider, while reinforcing each horse’s confidence and character. Her training is done without force, but rather by building trust and developing a partnership with the horse. From the beginning, horses are encouraged to stay mentally attentive and relaxed while carrying a soft, yielding feel through their bodies.
No two horses are the same; therefore Claire is constantly adapting her program to each individual’s needs. She is a life long student of horsemanship, and continues to expand her knowledge, regularly attending clinics to learn from the masters of ‘relational horsemanship’.
Mental and physical softness are the foundations of a true partnership between a rider and their horse. We all strive to feel this true connection with our horses, and that is the focus of Claire’s training program. It is not about ego or competition, but about encouraging horses to be the best they can be as performers and partners.
