JENN BURGOYNE – MANTRACKER WEEKEND! MOUNTED SEARCH & EQUINE FIRST AID CLINIC! Sept 5 - 7, 2015

Confidence & Skill training is essential for Mounted Search & Rescue operations. Horses must be confident and trust their rider/handler to execute what they are being asked to do without resistance.

Many people are now practicing and participating in obstacle challenges. Many of these obstacles are similar to what you would encounter on a HARMS test which is what most MSAR units use to certify their members. Having a horse that cannot execute these tasks is dangerous to take into a search.

During this workshop riders and horses will work through the HARMS test components building both their confidence. Problem solving techniques will be covered to help build confidence and achieve success on all tasks. The skill of controlling each foot and different parts of the horse will also be covered - improving the overall relationship between horse and rider.

Have you ever ridden your horse at night? How about through smoke or around flares/fire? After experiencing these skills with success your confidence will sore higher than you thought possible.

During this clinic you will also learn about search patterns and techniques used during different types of searches. On Monday morning there will be a competition to see who can locate the "lost" items/person & an obstacle course that will contain HARMS test components.

Having healthy horse and knowing how to help your horse if something goes wrong is important. If you are involved in a search and your horse becomes injured the last thing you want to be doing is pulling resources away from the search. Knowing what to do for your horse if this occurred is very important. On Sunday we will be going through pain detection & prevention techniques, taking & understanding vital signs, proper bandaging, treating cuts/scrapes/punctures, and much more.
