Rare opportunity: Sought-after bloodlines in this stunning black 16.1hh KWPN broodmare Rilyca, imported from the Netherlands who is again in foal for 2017 by Danish Trakehner stallion Ovation II, a combination that has produced Royal Winter Fair finalist 'Open Meadow'.

Rilyca, a 16.2hh black KWPN mare, DOB 1998, also registered in Main Book of Oldenburg NA, is a proven and caring broodmare whose foals include stallion prospects, Premium foals and Lt. Governor's Cup finalists. She herself has excellent movements and is an even better jumper. Very correct confirmation with a terrific top line paired with a very sweet temperament and bomb proof demeanour set her apart from other brood mares. She is a very loving mother and I personally have seen her occasionally nursing other mares' foals since she always has an abundance of milk guaranteeing well-muscled and athletic foals that are very well received at their foal inspections. She breeds easily with fresh or frozen semen, stands very patiently for palpations and inseminations and is all around a pleasure as broodmare.

Her sire Laroche was owned by the prestigious VDL Stud early in his career after finishing 4th in the jumping portion of his Stallion Test and after winning the KWPN Stallion Jumping Competition in Holland went on to a long and successful international Grand Prix career in Europe and later in North America under Frankie Chesler. His sire Olympic CONCORDE competed internationally under Jos Lansink for many years with excellent results, received KWPN Horse of the Year in 2004 and was the youngest stallion to ever be awarded the Preferent title. On Laroche's dam's side is the legendary NIMMERDOR who also was an international showjumper of great quality. He sired 18 approved sons, including Ahorn, Goodtimes, and Heartbreaker and was elected “the stallion of the 20th century” in the Netherlands. Laroche is a well-regarded stallion in the world and has produced a number of exceptional offspring including Grand Prix jumpers (Pjalgary VDL, Rudi, VDL Groep Saffier, Mr. President, Bugatti) numerous Ster and Keur mares, and one licensed stallion. His offspring have proven very successful as showjumpers and his European-based offspring have earned him a KWPN jumping index of 149, which ranks him 8th of all KWPN stallions. Laroche offers a kind and respectful character. Rilyca's dam Husheila contributes equally to the extraordinary pedigree, being sired by Sovereign Bill, a KWPN and SWANA approved Thoroughbred whose progeny shows internationally successful at the highest level as well. He also left his stamp in the stud books with several sons, grand sons and highly rated daughters. Through Rilyca's dam Marco Polo's blood is added once more, cementing Rilyca's easy-going attitude and jumping ability.

Rilyca's foals are very versatile and can go either Hunter, Equitation, Showjumper, Dressage or Eventing depending on the chosen sire but I personally find them best suited for Equitation and H/J because of their athletism, awesome scope over fences and bomb-proof attitude. All of them are very eager to please and inherit mom's friendly character, her black color, elegant movements and power-house attitude over fences. This will be her 9th foal and she is the ideal broodmare who gets easily in foal with fresh or frozen semen, gives birth without any assistance and cares exceptionally well for her foals. She is super easy to handle for everything and a true and gentle daughter of her sire. Rilyca's filly missed Premium status at her inspection by a hair but was afterwards snatched up immediately by the first person who came to see her for more than average price. The filly's amateur owners started her under saddle last year and are thrilled with her. Even their 10 year-old son rides her despite the filly growing to 16.3hh and it came as no surprise that the filly was a finalist last year in the Lt. Governor's Cup at the RAWF in Toronto. Her career will involve Dressage, H/J and broodmare duties.

Now Rilyca is back in foal to Ovation II for 2017 after the first foal from this combination has proven so successful.
Ovation II is a stunning dark bay Trakehner sire imported from Denmark. The 16.3hh stallion is by famous Trakehner stallion Traumdeuter out of the Russian Trakehner mare Oshoga who carries Grand Prix winner Khokkey’s bloodline. Khokkey aka Hockey from the well known Russian Kirow Stud Farm is the grand sire to World Cup winner Biotop and father of many top competition horses such as Almox Prints who twice took part in the Olympics of Seoul and Barcelona and became international successful in Grand Prix Show jumping. Ovation II himself is trained to Prix St. George Dressage and has shown successfully in Canada. He is registered with the Canadian and American Trakehner Stud Book as well as ISR/Oldenburg and was also approved by the American Warmblood Society with a score of 84.55%, earning him the titles Horse of the Year 2005 and winning 1st Place Year End Canadian in 2005. All his foals are eligible for full registration with Oldenburg or AWS. He is not available to outside mares anymore so this is indeed a rare opportunity to own not only an outstanding broodmare but also an offspring of this exceptional stallion.
