Merlin is out of ABC/CSI reg Curly mare OYY Uptown Girl who is a great example of the curly breed. She is an athletic, smart, level headed horse who with her stocky build is a great mount for both children and adults. Merlin's dam was exclusively a broodmare until summer of 2012 when she proved to double as a fantastic riding mount for our pony club. Curly horses come from the American wild mustang herds and are known for their hardiness and ability to thrive in less than ideal climates. They are also known to be smart, very well tempered and make great riding and driving horses.
Merlin is sired by Maplehurst Michael MacDaire, a well known Elite Connemara sire in the local region. “Mick” has produced many competitive offspring in many different riding disciplines. He stamps his foals with his good temperament, train-ability, and athleticism. Descendants of Mick can be found all over North America competing in various disciplines. These foals make ideal competition & family type horses.
Personality+ Merlin is very social, bold and curious about everything. If you leave the gate open he is quite helpful and would rather reorganize the barn for you instead of running away. Not easily spooked, typical of his curly lineage he is more interested in checking out strange things opposed to fleeing from them. Loves having friends but can live alone – doesn’t fret or get bothered about being left by himself. We have been handling and working with Merlin since birth. UTD on vetting and farrier. Has always been barefoot with solid hooves. He leads well, ponies off another horse, wall ties, cross ties, has been bathed with the hose, good for bug spray, clipping, sheath cleaning, loves to be groomed, picks up his feet, tacked up, gun training, ground driving, etc. Good with children. He has been loaded and trailered a couple of times. He's started long lining. Merlin has been very Lightly started and hacked around bareback with light rider but due to his age he won't be doing much until next spring. Has been ridden in full tack a couple of times now. Goes, stops, steers, walks over obstacles and has ponied the weanling fillies. We are very happy with this young colt. Couldn't ask for better from this pairing. He is a very sensible, solid and accepting of new things. A fabulous future awaits this guy.
